State of the blog: 07 Feb 2016

Hey folks,

Just wanted to check in with everyone and see how things are going. I’m not posting here anywhere near as often as I like, but I feel like I’ve got some pretty good reasons for it.

I’m 30k words into my overhaul rewrite of my 2015 NaNoWriMo project, and it looks like I’m on track to hit 70k.

I’ve submitted two short stories to different magazines, which has meant some pretty intensive rewriting in the last few weeks, as well as some nail biting while I wait to hear back.

I’m doing a super fancy polish on the first chapter and a half of my WiP so that I can use it as a submission piece for Viable Paradise. Not sure if I’ll get in this year, but the website tells me I should at least apply, and I believe it.

I’ve also got two super secret projects that I’m working on. Mainly they’re super secret because I think they’re super awesome, but I don’t want to get everyone’s hopes up in case they don’t pan out.

So, yeah. Super busy. I’m hoping that as things wind down or wrap up, I’ll have some more time for posting more flash fiction and other fun stories here, but I’ve got some definite things I plan on cramming into the schedule no matter what.

  • My PAX South 2016 write up
  • Reviews of Elantris, and The Alchemy of Chaos
  • Nerdist Inkshares recommendations*

To talk a little bit more about the last one, Nerdist Industries is running a competition where the book orders in a certain genre (in this case, space opera) with the top 3 preorders will get published under the NI banner, even if they didn’t meet their preorder goal. That’s pretty awesome. I came up with a pitch (you can find it here) but quickly realized that I didn’t have the time to do everything above, work my ass off promoting myself, and write a space opera in two months. So instead, I’m going to write about one book/pitch a week that really spoke to me, and hopefully peak some of y’all’s interests enough to check it out and maybe add a few to their preorder count.

That’s my life as it stands now. I hope your year so far has been filled with adventure, excitement, and creativity!

  1. Writerly business is the best sort. Glad to hear your creative mojo is running like a fine-tuned Harley. Similarly busy myself. I look forward to each day, meeting up with my characters and seeing where they want to take me. All the best with the projects.
